Fabulously wealthy and politically entrenched in Baldur's Gate, the Silvershields were once the proud "Watchful Eye" of their province. But while his eldest brother inherited the steel and the prestigious title, Daerion inherited nothing but crushing expectations. Viewed as merely a spare heir by his family, he felt like a prisoner shackled to a dry, demanding faith, desperate for any escape from the cold, heavy weight of his plate armor.

A Gambler's Crusade

Seeking a thrill, he turned to the shadowy gambling dens of the city to finally feel something real. What began as a simple distraction quickly spiraled into a massive debt that eclipsed his family’s dwindling coffers. When ruthless debt collectors finally came knocking at his father’s estate, Daerion didn't confess—he fled. Spinning a desperate lie that he was marching to Neverwinter to restore their honor through a holy crusade, he was truly just running from the men eager to break his legs over unpaid gold.

The Cynical Sentry

Now operating far from home, Daerion is a paladin in name and gear alone. Viewing the world through a cracked, cynical lens, he offers his sword to the highest bidder, treating every supposed "holy mission" as nothing more than a practical paycheck. Though he still offers hollow prayers to Helm, it feels like talking to a stone wall. He suspects the Watcher hasn't abandoned him yet only because he hasn't technically broken his oath—he is simply bending it until it screams.

Seeds of the Illrigger

Daerion’s rigid, noble worldview finally began to fracture on the road. Now traveling with the motley misfits of The Chimera Company, his ingrained xenophobia has slowly been replaced by a dangerous new empathy. Helm demands the absolute destruction of the profane, yet Daerion has started seeing even fiends and demons as creatures with desperate motivations not unlike his own. As the party marches into A Rising Storm, it is only a matter of time before he spares a fiend out of mercy, shattering his "Silvershield" forever and completing his dark descent into an Illrigger.
